Irvine Welsh could land Hibs in hot water as alleged Alfredo Morelos comments spark SFA probe

Hibs are at the centre of an SFA probe last night over incendiary comments allegedly made by Trainspotting author and celebrity fan Irvine Welsh directed at Alfredo Morelos.

Record Sport can reveal the Edinburgh club could be clobbered for allowing Welsh’s remarks to be broadcast over its own official media platform during Wednesday’s fiery top flight clash with Rangers.

Hibs issued an apology to Rangers and Morelos for the comments in a statement released on Thursday evening.

The Ibrox club's supporters' liaison officer wrote: “We are disappointed at the comments made in relation to Alfredo and our club.

Hibs have apologised to the club today. Nevertheless, we are sure these comments will be investigated by the football authorities.”

And we understand Hampden bosses will write to the club to officially request footage of a half-time interview between Welsh and host David Tanner to be handed over before deciding whether or not to take Hibs to task for what have been described as deeply offensive comments aimed at Morelos.

Welsh’s comments created a furious storm after the match but so far no video or audio clips have appeared online.
