Irvine Vics striker Kevin Adam one goal away from equalling all-time scoring record

Kevin Adam is just one goal away from equalling Irvine Vics’ all-time goalscoring record.

The striker scored against Vale of Clyde on Saturday to take him to the brink of matching the legendary Andy Clarkson’s tally of 146.

With 11 goals to his name already this season it seems only a matter of time before Adam writes himself into the history books.

And with a league trip to struggling Saltcoats this weekend, few would back against Adam realising a long-held ambition.

Vics coach Peter Campbell admits breaking the record is at the forefront of Adam’s mind but insists the focus must be on leaving Campbell Park with three points.

Saltcoats currently sit second bottom of West of Scotland League Division Three - 21 points adrift of sixth placed Vics who are on a 10-game unbeaten league stretch.

But Campbell warned: “Saltcoats are a really good side and they’re better than their league form shows. It’s always a hard place to go to.

“We need to lift the standard, especially as we feel today (against Vale of Clyde) was two points dropped. “
