Irvine Vics solve dugout crisis with appointment of new management team

Irvine Vics have announced Dougie MacDuff as their new manager.

The 54-year-old former St Roch's, Stonehouse Violet and Glasgow Perthshire boss replaces Alan Kelly who quit the hot seat last Wednesday after just three days in the job.

Steven Callaghan comes in as assistant manager having served the same role under MacDuff at Stonehouse.

Coach Wil Devlin, originally part of Kelly's management team, has agreed to stay on and work with the duo.

MacDuff stepped away from football in 2015 following a family bereavement.

But he decided to look for a route back into the game earlier this year and applied for the Vics job following Brian McLuckie's resignation on June 10.

MacDuff was unsuccessful on that occasion but the Vics committee turned to him following Kelly's shock departure for health reasons.

He now has just under three weeks to assemble a squad ahead of the West of Scotland League season kicking off.

Vics secretary David Loach said: "Dougie and Steven will get started right away and know the challenge ahead with the season so close and upcoming friendlies against Saltcoats Victoria and Drumchapel United.

"We extend thanks to all applicants again after the shock announcement of Alan Kelly and Kevin Lafferty resigning due to personal issues.

"All at the club wish Alan and Kevin the best in the future and Alan all the best for his personal reasons."
