Irvine Vics legend Kevin Adam set to sign for Championship rival ending 10 year spell

Kevin Adam has revealed how the feeling of being wanted finally persuaded him to end his 10-year love affair with Irvine Vics.

The popular frontman called time on a decade at the Westenders this week after spending the summer wrestling over his future.

Having not featured much last season - his testimonial year - under Brian McLuckie, the 30-year-old felt the time is right for a fresh challenge.

But he admitted it took interest from other clubs to convince him there is life away from Victoria Park.

“I’ve been at Vics most of my adult life and absolutely loved my time here,” said Adam, who sits second in the club’s all time scoring list.

“It’s hard to imagine myself anywhere else but when I sat down and thought about it I realised I’m at an age where I need to play football.

“It’s nice to be wanted and when I spoke to other managers it helped make my mind up.

“I’ll miss everyone at Vics and I made sure the committee were first to know because they’ve always been fantastic with me. The fans were great with me too and I’m going to miss those derby games against Meadow.”

Adam, who revealed he is poised to sign for a Championship rival, added: “It’s a shame I couldn’t stay long enough to break the club’s all-time scoring record but being second in the record books isn’t a bad achievement and I like to think I’ll be remembered as one of the club’s most successful players.”
