Irvine Vics boss gives players full-time rocket after "very disappointing" defeat

Irvine Vics boss Brian McLuckie revealed he gave his players a full time 'rocket' after they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Neilston this afternoon.

Dylan Fletcher's strike four minutes into the second half put an end to the Westenders' unbeaten start in the Championship.

And McLuckie admitted he was "very disappointed" with his side's performance as he pointed the finger at ill-discipline and a lack of team work.

"We didn't play anywhere near how we've played in the games before", he said.

"I just didn't think we had enough energy about the whole team, or enough aggression and enough desire to win.

"We were like 11 individuals. We could have had 11 different strips on.

"In the games before we played and worked like a team. We didn't work hard enough today, all over.

"We gave away a bad goal. They've only created chances due to our indiscipline. I gave them (the players) a rocket.

"It's very disappointing. Out of the four teams we've played I think the other three are better than Neislton."

Vics went into the clash missing four players - Ryan Morrow, Jonny Baxter, Gabe Skeoch and Grant Thorburn.

But they came closest to opening the scoring in a scrappy first half when Danny Wilson rattled the crossbar with a free kick.

Neilston started the second half the better of the two sides and they cut Vics open in 49 minutes leaving Fletcher with all the time in the world drill a low shot beyond Vics goalkeeper Blair Cousar.

The Farmer's boys also rattled the woodwork and had another effort hacked off the line before Cousar came to the rescue with an excellent save to deny Jamie Hay when he looked certain to score.

Vics pushed hard for an equaliser in the last 10 minutes, but they just couldn't catch a break in front of goal.

Ewan Farrell did well to fashion a chance in the dying seconds but his shot from 12 yards deflected inches wide of the target.

Vics will be hoping to bounce back when they take on Craigmark Burntonians on Wednesday night.

McLuckie added: "If we get a result down there then all will be forgotten. We've got a chance to redeem ourselves.

"I've got to say after four games we're still relatively happy with the points we've got."
