Irvine Vics boss Brian McLuckie says performance matters more than result after defeat

Brian McLuckie insisted he was more interested in his side’s performance than the result after Vics made Darvel dig deep for three points on Saturday.

An Allan Mackenzie header in the 73rd minute was enough for the big-spending visitors to leave North Ayrshire with a win that keeps their Championship challenge on track.

But McLuckie reckons his young side could easily have taken a point and was adamant they had Darvel on the ropes in the closing stages.

“We missed two great chances at the end of the game to get a result, he said.

“In the first-half they were probably better than us, but for the last 20 minutes I thought we looked fitter than them – they were wasting time which tells me more about us than them.

“I’m not interested in the result, I am more pleased about the performance we put in.

“We have got to take this into St Roch’s next week and then Renfrew the following week, that’s two tough matches.”

“It’s a very young team we have and we’re maybe lacking experience, but we will continue the way we are going.”
