Irvine Vics ace loses bragging rights to twin brother and jokes: 'I'll delete his number'

Shane Jackson suffered a double dose of dread as Irvine Vics exited the South Challenge Cup at the hands of Vale of Leven - after losing out to identical twin brother Chris.

The siblings came up against each other for the first time in their careers at Victoria Park on Saturday with Vale coming out on top with a 1-0 win thanks to Callum Richardson's late strike.

And Vics striker Shane joked he was ready to take drastic action after conceding the family bragging rights to 'older' brother, midfielder Chris.

"I'm just going to delete his number, said the 33-year-old who revealed the pair were born an hour apart.

"We'd been winding each other up on Whatsapp before the game, but he got one over me today I'm afraid."

The brothers are more used to playing in the same team having enjoyed spells together at Thorniewood, Benburb and Stonehouse Violet.

Shane admits he's loving life at Irvine Vics despite a tough season that has seen the Westenders win only one game so far.

He said: "We keep saying it every week - it's daft mistakes that are hurting us.

"We work hard in training. We've got a good atmosphere even though we've not been getting results.

"It should get us down but it can make us stronger.

"We're still a young team. We can improve."
