Irvine Vics ace Kevin Adam unsure of future at club as testimonial looms

Irvine Vics legend Kevin Adam this week hinted his testimonial year at the club could be his last.

The 29-year-old striker and club captain has struggled to hold down a starting place this season under Brian McLuckie.

And he admits a lack of game time could force him to consider his options in the summer after a decade at the Westenders.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do, said Adam.

“I’m 30 next month and I haven’t played as much as I’d like to this year so obviously that’s a factor.

“The boys are playing well at the moment so I can’t complain too much.

“I hate sitting on the bench though. I’ll need to wait and see come the end of the season if there’s any offers or if anyone wants me!”

Adam’s prolific eye for goal over the last decade has made him a firm fan’s favourite.

He is the second top scorer in the club’s history with 132 goals - just 13 shy of Andy Clarkson’s all-time record.

In 2016, he became only the fourth player in the club’s history to break the 100 goals barrier.

His goals have coincided with arguably the most successful spell in the club’s history.

He netted 24 times in Vics’ title winning season and has played a major part in another two promotion winning teams.

It’s not a bad record for someone who had never even heard of the Westenders before he signed from Johnstone Burgh in 2009.

Adam joked: “You don’t usually stay at a club this long. It’s dragged in!

“Seriously though, I’m actually a fan now, not just a player.

“The good thing is we’ve always had good teams and boys in the dressing room here.

“The fans have been brilliant too and I think that’s why I’ve stuck it out so long.

“Some of the boys joke that I’ll be the manager here soon enough.

“We’re not the biggest of clubs with the biggest budget but if your in junior football for the money your in the wrong place.”

Adam is now setting his sights on achieving something he’s never managed in his time at the club – avoiding relegation from the second tier of the West leagues.

“We’ve been up and down a couple of times but I’m confident we can stay up this time,” he added.
