An Irvine teenager has had a lockdown haircut she will never forget.
Michaela Ferguson, 14, decided to shave off her beautiful long hair to raise £1000 for Cancer Research and she has already reached her fundraising target.
The Irvine Royal Academy pupil was inspired to shave her head for the charity as two of her beloved grandparents died after being diagnosed with cancer.
Michaela has been asking her mum if she could go ‘for the chop’ for some years now. And on Saturday the big day finally came around.
Michaela’s mum Michelle could not be prouder of her kind and selfless daughter, whose hair had grown all the way down to her waist.
Michelle, 49, told the Irvine Herald: “Cancer Research UK is a charity close of all of our hearts. Both of Michaela’s grandparents sadly died from cancer.
“She did really well on Saturday. It was actually her dad Robert who shaved her hair off at home in the garden.”
Michaela has since been donning a variety of hats to help keep her newly-shaved head warm.
Her mum added: “At least she’s done this during the summer and her hair will have grown in a fair bit before she goes back to school.
“I couldn’t be prouder of Michaela. She is an amazing and wonderful wee girl.
“She’s managed to hit her target of £1000 and is hoping to raise a little more in the weeks to come. I’m absolutely chuffed to bits for her.”
