Irvine's old harbourmaster office is set for a £100,000 makeover as part of North Ayrshire Council's community wealth building strategy.
It's hoped the C-listed building can be revitalised after council bosses pledged the amount from its £1.3 million empty and derelict funding pot at a recent cabinet meeting.
Cabinet papers outline initial works to protect the integrity of the existing council-owned listed building – making it wind and watertight with service connections to support future development.
Council leader Joe Cullinane said: "Our Labour administration has ambitious plans for Irvine Harbourside, including bringing the harbourmaster's office back into productive use.
"We are investing £100,000 of vacant and derelict land funding on this iconic listed building.
"It has fell into poor condition over the years but my administration will breathe new life into it, putting our community wealth building strategy into practice by giving it a future."
The 19th century cottage is believed to have started life as a farmhouse.
Previously, Scottish author Mairi Craw – inspired by her late father, harbourmaster Ralph Henderson – once campaigned to see the office restored as a "vibrant part of the community".
