Irvine residents left 'fed-up' after bizarre screeching noise sounded from factory 'all weekend'

Harbourside residents have been left ‘fed up’ after a persistent high-pitched noise sounded from a near-by factory throughout the weekend.

Resident Ryan Brawley sent us this video this morning and claimed the noise from the Ardagh factory had been going on since 5am.

He said: “Three days, 24 hours a day this racket has been going on now. Anyone else not getting fed up with this? All weekend, it’s not halted.”

Ryan’s claims are backed up by fellow residents of the harbourside area on social media.

One commented: “It’s been going on all weekend, it needs sorted ASAP, they must hear it so I can’t understand why they haven’t stopped it.”

The noise has been described as a squeaking or screeching noise by residents.

A spokesperson for the company said: “This problem was promptly addressed after being reported. The source of the noise was a dry bearing in our cullet conveyor (cullet is recycled glass, and our primary raw material).

“The bearing was greased and the noise was immediately eliminated. Some new equipment due to be installed later this week, will prevent this problem from recurring.”
