Irvine Meadow sign second goalkeeper as boss tips fierce battle for No1 jersey

Colin Spence is expecting a fierce battle for the No1 jersey at Irvine Meadow after snapping up a second goalkeeper.

Former Clydebank and Elgin City shot-stopper Marc Waters follows David Markey through the doors at Meadow Park after completing a move from Petershill.

And delighted co-boss Spence reckons the arrival of two quality keepers means the gloves will be off in pre-season in the fight for a starting place.

He said: "Sorting out the goalkeeping situation has been a top priority for us so we're delighted to bring in two really strong keepers in Marc and David. It's a weight off our minds.

"You always aim for two players in every position. It helps push up standards and I've no doubt Marc and David will be going hammer and tongs in training in the coming weeks.

"Marc is someone we were first impressed with when he was at Clydebank. He moved to Petershill last summer but never really got going because of the whole lockdown situation. We're delighted to bring him on board.

Spence also reckons the new signings can help the development of the club's U20s keeper Adam McLean.

He added: "Adam is a good, promising young goalie who has been on standy for us but with the U20s hopefully restarting this season we're happy for him to get as much game time as he can with them."
