Irvine Meadow set to offer strike ace chance of a permanent return after trialist cameo

Irvine Meadow are set to offer Eddie McTernan the chance of a permanent return following the strike ace’s appearance as a trialist in yesterday's 3-2 league win against Blantyre.

McTernan left the club in the summer for a fresh start with Conference club Arthurlie.

But the Barrhead outfit released their entire squad after opting to take a year out from competitive football meaning McTernan is a free agent once again.

Medda co-boss Colin Spence now hopes to persuade the hitman to sign on for a second spell to ease the burden on main strike duo Connor Boyd and Dylan Pooler.

He said: “Eddie came in through the week and played in a bounce game and looked really sharp considering he’s not been playing.

“With Brendan Sharpe out injured we need to add something up there to help the guys out.

“Dylan’s been excellent and he’s been involved in most of our goals but a lot of the goals seem to falling to Connor at the minute. If he’s not scoring we don’t seem to be scoring.

“We need someone else to take the load off a wee bit.

“Eddie maybe made a mistake leaving. He was probably the one we lost in the summer that we wanted to keep so to get him back would be a real bonus.

"He’s lively, he’s a goalscorer and a good boy to have about the place. He’s got that bit of experience now too. If we can get him in he’ll be a good signing.”

Spence also admitted he’s looking at bringing in reinforcements for the New Year.

“We’re look to bring maybe a couple more just to bolster the squad,” he admitted.
