Irvine Meadow players react to Brian McGinty's shock decision to quit hotseat

Senior Irvine Meadow players have reacted with dismay to Brian McGinty's shock decision to quit the hotseat.

Captain Ben Carson led a stream of heartfelt tributes to the departed gaffer - who resigned last night - saying he was "absolutely gutted" to see him go.

Defender Calum Gow said McGinty was the 'best man manager' he's ever had while injured frontman Graham Boyd said the fact that players would run brick walls for him was 'testament to the man's measure'.

Utility man Jared Willet insisted McGinty had taken Meadow to another level in his time in charge.

Midfielder Mark McLennan said it was a 'really tough one to take' adding that McGinty's management team of No2 Stevie Aitchison and Phil Bannister were 'unbelievable'

Striker Darren Jones said McGinty would be 'a massive loss' to the club.

What the players said...

The squad is due to meet on Thursday with a senior player or players expected to take the team on Saturday for the league derby clash away to Kilwinning Rangers.

Meadow chairman Robert Jeffrey gave his reaction to McGinty's exit here with the club expected to make a statement on Friday.
