Irvine Meadow goal machine Adam Forsyth relishing his top-flight return

He banged in an incredible 39 goals last season and reckons he’s in the shape of his life.

Manager Brian McGinty made him his only signing of the summer and he’s made a scoring start to pre-season.

You’d think Adam Forsyth — Junior football’s top marksman last year — would be a shoo-in to lead the line for Meadow in the forthcoming West Premiership campaign.

But the frontman insists he has a real scrap on his hands to push himself to the front of the striking pecking order.

The 24-year-old has been blown away by the step up in class, on and off the park, since completing a move from Whitletts Victoria in May.

And he admitted: “The goals I scored last year played a part in bringing me here but it’s a fresh start now. I can’t live off reputation alone.

“There are another four or five excellent strikers at the club who will all be desperate to play.

“It’s a new scenario for me because at Whitletts and Troon I was the only out-and-out striker on the books.

“No disrespect to either of those teams but this just feels like a big step up. When you come to club like Meadow you very quickly become aware of the expectation levels around the place.

“There’s an aura that can be quite daunting but it’s very exciting at the same time.”

Forsyth has a steely determination to succeed given he has unfinished business in the Junior grade’s top flight.

A short and ill-fated spell with Cumnock in 2017 saw him sidelined and shipped back to Troon after only a few months.

He feels he has given himself every chance of making it work this time round by getting in tip-top condition.

“I’ve just came through the toughest pre-season of my career and I feel brilliant,” he insisted. “We didn’t see a ball for the first two weeks, it was all running and I’m easily the fittest I’ve ever been.

“The boys have been brilliant with me and the mood around the place is great.”
