Irvine Meadow boss says all the pressure is on Pollok ahead of top of the table clash

Irvine Meadow boss Brian McGinty insists all the pressure is on big spending Pollok ahead of tomorrow's top of the table West Premiership clash.

Meadow closed the gap on leaders ‘Lok to two points with a 1-0 win against Rutherglen Glencairn on Saturday.

Another win this weekend will send them top of the Premiership pile.

But despite having home advantage, McGinty believes the expectation to win is entirely on the visitors’ shoulders.

He said: “Pollok’s under all the pressure up at the top. Their budget is more than double ours.

“They’re expected to win a league or a Scottish Cup this year. They’ve not done it for about 10 years.

“They need to win something this year otherwise it looks like a failure.

“We’re under no illusions. We’re probably punching above our weight at this moment.

“But what we have is a group of boys that scrap for everything and they’ll do that again on Saturday.

“If it’s good enough to beat Pollok, great. If not, we just dust ourselves down and get on with it.

“We just worry about getting enough points to get ourselves safe.”

McGinty was delighted with the way his side ground out a narrow victory against Rutherglen.

He added: “We played some really good football at times and dug in at others. I thought it was a really good performance.

“Rutherglen have got some very good players middle to front but we felt we could get at them defensively.

“We’re in a really good place at the moment in terms of the mentality of the team and the belief.”
