Irvine Meadow boss happy to see players win ugly again as side scrape past Kirkintilloch Rob Roy

Brian McGinty insisted he was happy to see Meadow win ugly again after they edged past Premiership bottom dogs Roy Roy.

Ben Carson’s header early in the second half gave Medda a 1-0 victory at Guys Meadow on Saturday.

And while McGinty admitted there wasn’t much quality on show, he was delighted to see his players battle to an important three points.

He said: “As a game it was a poor spectacle. Rob Roy were happy to boot the ball into the stands and slow play down.

“We weren’t great ourselves but any quality in the game came from us.

“All we asked the players to do at half time was grind out a result which I’m delighted to say they did. We did that a lot last year but it was something we hadn’t managed to do this season.”

The biggest talking point in a dull first half was a strong Medda appeal for a penalty after the ball appeared to strike David Green’s arm.

The referee didn’t want to know however and the teams went into the break goalless.

Early in the second half Rob Roy ace Gary Carroll was denied a certain goal by Neil Slooves timely block.

But the game turned in an instant seconds later when Colin Spence sent in the perfect cross for Carson to head past Kerr.

McTernan then tested the keeper with a shot from 18 yards that was tipped over the bar.

Forrester and MacPherson flashed headers off target as the hosts desperately chased an equaliser.

But the last chance fell Meadow’s way when Lee McCrea blazed a shot over after good set up play by Andy McLaughlin.

Meadow host Cumnock this Saturday and McGinty is desperate to get back to winning ways on home turf.

He has a few injury niggles to worry about but is hoping the treatment room will empty as the week goes on.
