Irvine Meadow boss Colin Spence reveals why striker left and insists he has ready-made replacement

Colin Spence is backing Graham Boyd to fill Brendan Sharpe’s shooting boots and become Irvine Meadow’s tormentor-in-chief.

Striker Sharpe completed a shock switch to Kilbirnie Ladeside last week but co-boss Spence reckons he has a ready-made replacement in Boyd who is back fit again after three-years of injury hell.

Spence said: “We were disappointed to see Brendan go but he stays in Greenock and travelling was an issue for him.

"He used to travel down to training with Calum Gow but with Calum out injured for the forseeable future that became a problem.

“At Kilbirnie, he can car share with a few of their players so it suited him to move on.

“Boydy back fit again has softened the blow. He’s a very similar player. Neither are out and out strikers but they get in behind defences and cause chaos.”
