Irvine Meadow boss Brian McGinty insists he got reaction he was looking for in derby triumph

Irvine Meadow manager Brian McGinty insisted he got the reaction he was looking for after his side beat derby rivals Irvine Vics in the Sectional League Cup last night.

Medda let a two-goal lead slip against the Westenders before second half goals from Reece Pearson and Adam Forsyth .

McGinty had demanded his players turn in a performance after Monday night's 1-0 defeat at Troon effectively ended their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

And he reckons they delivered against Vics - despite admitting there is still plenty of room for improvement.

He said  "I didn't doubt for a minute I wouldn't get a reacton. I knew it was coming and we started really well with the two goals.

Danny Wilson pounces on goalkeeping error to get Vics back in the match (Irvine Herald)

"Only a couple of bits of slackness let Vics back into it. One of their boys scores a wonder strike after we gave away a cheap free kick and the first goal is a mistake from the goalkeeper.

"It summed up our pre-season to be honest. We were really good in bits and really slack in bits.

"I don't want to make any excuses but we've got a big squad this season we've been chopping and changing.

"The day I don't get a reaction from the dressing room there will be a few boys on their way."
