Irvine Meadow boss axes match-winning striker from starting 11 then claims: I knew he'd score

Brian McGinty insists he knew Adam Forsyth would score against Beith – despite dropping the striker from his starting 11.

Forsyth came off the bench at Bellsdale Park on Sunday and netted a dramatic winner with virtually his first touch as 10-man Dow eked out a 2-1 win against the odds.

But McGinty insisted it was all part of his game plan.

He revealed: “Adam scored against Kilwinning last week and the temptation was to keep him in because he got his first league goal for the club.

“But we just felt Eddie McTernan’s pace and work rate would give them a real problem for the first part of the game.

“I actually said to Adam before the game – and I’m not trying to be clever here – that he would score.

“We always felt there would be chances at the end of the game and Adam is one of the best finishers in Junior football so we knew if he got a chance he’d probably take it.”
