Eddie McTernan is hoping history can repeat itself as Irvine Meadow go for glory in 2020.
The striker netted a double last weekend as Meadow beat Troon 3-1 to climb to third in the West Premiership.
McTernan admits it’s been a great season so far for Brian McGinty’s side.
But he reckons things can get even better for Dow in the New Year — if the last two seasons are anything to go by.
“Since I’ve been here, we’re always stronger in the second half of the season, said McTernan.
“The gaffer came in when we were in the Championship and we kicked on and won promotion.
“Last year we were brilliant too, so hopefully it’s a tradition.
“We’re still in all the cups including the Scottish which is all you are wanting at this stage.
“With the league you try and get yourself up as high as possible before Christmas and you never know what can happen in the second half of the season.
“If you win all your home games you have a chance.”
McTernan believes his teammates can also take encouragement from the fact they’ve got where they are in spite of terrible run of injuries.
“We can only get stronger as the boys come back,” he added.
Medda boss McGinty singled out the frontman, who has had his own battles with injury, after the victory over Troon.
He said: “All the boys give us everything every week but Eddie in the last couple of weeks has been unplayable in training. He’s got that knack of being in the right place at the right time.”
Meadow round off their year this weekend with a short trip to take on Kilbirnie who lost 5-2 at Auchinleck on Saturday.
