Irvine legal teams back hospice campaign and raise £34,222

The Ayrshire Hospice raised nearly £35,000 through its latest Make a Will campaign.

Make a Will Fortnight, which has run for eight years and raised £175,000 in that time, allows supporters of the hospice to make or update their will in exchange for a donation.

Hospice fundraiser Fiona Paton said: “We’re absolutely delighted and honoured to have the support of so many solicitors’ offices all across Ayrshire and Arran.

“We recognise the amount of work that goes in during our Make a Will Fortnight and we are hugely indebted to them and their clients for their continued support.”

Just short of 400 wills were made last year, raising £34,222. Irvine solicitors McKinnon Hewitt, Austin Kelly and McSherry Halliday were all involved.

Catherine Morrow, partner at McSherry Halliday, said: “The partners and staff all recognise the significance of supporting the work of the hospice. All the funds raised stay in Ayrshire and directly benefit people in the local area.

“Knowing that the donations we generate through our participation in the Make a Will fortnight are so appreciated is hugely rewarding and important to us.”

This year’s Make a Will Fortnight takes place between October 14 and 25. There is a list of participating solicitors on the Ayrshire Hospice website at www.ayrshirehospice.org.

Last year people left over £960,000 to the hospice in their wills.
