Irvine hospital is set to reopen Covid hit ward

A ward at Woodland View Hospital which tonight confirmed positive covid cases is set to reopen after a short lockdown.

The ward - which is set to reopen pending a thorough disinfectant clean- was put on lock down after an unspecified number of positive Coronavirus cases were linked to a unit at the Irvine hospital, NHS Ayrshire & Arran bosses confirmed this evening.

Dr Crawford McGuffie, Medical Director, said: "NHS Ayrshire & Arran can confirm that a small number of cases connected to a ward in Woodland View tested positive for COVID-19.

"All affected staff, patients and their families have been informed. We also notified Health Protection Scotland in line with national reporting requirements.

"From today, this outbreak has been declared over, and the ward will be re-opened following a thorough disinfectant clean.

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure members of the public that every measure is being taken to protect patients and staff.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time.

"We would like to remind people of the symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19): new persistent cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell. Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately."

This follows on from the news of a similar outbreak at Crosshouse Hospital.
