Irvine DJ who played impromptu bank holiday beach set wants to bring dance festival to town

A DJ who played an impromptu Easter set at Irvine beach says he wants to bring a dance festival to the town next year.

Elliot Boyce went viral at the weekend after videos of him blasting out dance tracks for stunned sun worshippers went online.

The 21-year-old Irvine lad hired a generator on the spur of the moment on Friday, set up his decks and speakers and played a stonking three-hour set.

And after wowing everyone from families to cops and coastguard, Elliot is determined to bring dance music to the town on a much bigger scale.

He said: “Irvine beach is a fantastic location for music. The beach park was built for holding something like a music festival.

“It’s too late to organise something for this summer but maybe next year I’ll look at doing something.

“A disco dome would be great or even bringing a festival to the town. There would be a lot of licensing hoops to jump through but I think it would be a fantastic opportunity for a place like Irvine.

“I know some of the guys at Freckfest and they do a great job bringing bands to the town, but this would be something a little bit different.

“I’m DJing at Stereofunk festival at Strathclyde Country Park on May 5 and working with them to do something similar in Irvine could be an option.”

Elliot, who has dj-ing for around 10 years, reckons the reception he received proves there is a demand for a dance scene in the town.

More than 35,000 people watched his videos on top of the hundreds who enjoyed his beach set.

“The sun shone all day and everyone seemed to love it,” said Elliot.

“It was great fun, even the police and coastguard were briliant. The whole thing went crazy on social media. I was getting messages left, right and centre. Let’s see what happens in the future.”
