A man was taken to hospital after being seriously assaulted during a disturbance at Irvine beach yesterday.
Police were called to the car park area at the beauty spot around 5pm following reports of an incident involving a group of youths.
A 23-year-old male was taken to Kilmarnock's Crosshouse Hospital and later released after receiving treatment.
Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to get in touch as they bid to establish exactly what happened at the time.
Due to the heatwave, the areas in and around the beach were busy and Ayrshire police hope people who saw what went on will come forward.
Motorists with dash-cam footage are also encouraged to contact police.
Detective Constable Lorna Kerr said: “The beach has been very busy this week and I would ask any witnesses who were in the area at the time, or anyone with information about the incident, to please get in touch.”
Saltcoats CID can be contacted via 101, quoting reference 2770 of 11 August, 2022.
Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
