A fire at a property in North Ayrshire is being treated as attempted murder, detectives confirmed last night.
The incident happened around 4.20am on Saturday morning at an address in McKinlay Crescent, Irvine.
A blaze was started at the property with a 59-year-old woman subsequently taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock. Police said she was later discharged.
Cops have appealed for witnesses to get in touch and requested dash-cam footage from motorists who were out and about at the time of the fire.
Detective Constable Sandy McBreen, of Saltcoats police station, said: “Inquiries are ongoing into this incident which is being treated as attempted murder.
“If you were in the area of McKinlay Crescent between 3.40am and 4am on Saturday morning and saw anything suspicious, or have any information that may assist our investigation, please contact officers as soon as possible.
“We are keen to obtain any dash-cam footage from motorists in the area between these times, in case they have captured anything that may be helpful to this inquiry.
“Information should be passed to 101 quoting reference number 0663 of 6 May. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."
