- The tax filing deadline in the United States is just days away and the IRS has issued a new warning for tax filers.
- Americans have until April 15 to file their 2025 tax returns and pay any tax due. The IRS expects to receive roughly 164 million individual income tax returns this year, with most taxpayers filing electronically.
- Taxpayers have increasingly turned to online tools to file their returns in recent years and while it may seem like an easy switch, it also comes with risks.
- “The IRS has warned taxpayers not to rely on AI-generated responses to complex tax questions,” the agency wrote this week. “They should also verify any calculations or information provided by artificial intelligence.”
- The IRS also wants Americans to know that if you can't file taxes by the due date, you can request an automatic 6-month extension, though an extension to file is not an extension to pay.
