IRS now accepts tax payments at 7-11 convenience stores

Americans who wish to pay their taxes in cash now have a more conveniently-located payment centre: their local 7-Eleven convenience store.

The Internal Revenue Service announced their plan this week to accept tax payments at more than 7,000 of the retail chain’s US locations, across 34 states. It would alleviate the burden of traveling to an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centre for people without credit cards or bank accounts — a problem faced by one in 13 American households, according to the Associated Press

If taxpayers opt to pay at a 7-Eleven store, they will have to follow instructions listed on the IRS website, and for participating locations.

There is, however, a $1000 (£711) daily payment limit per customer, who are subject to a $3.99 (£2.89) fee.

Americans have until the deadline of 18 April to file their taxes.
