A misspelt road marking painted outside of a secondary school in Brighton, East Sussex, unfortunately, won't be receiving any top marks in English this term. Pupils at Portslade Aldridge Community Academy, on Chalky Road, who will be returning from their summer holidays this week, would have been greeted by a large painted sign welcoming them to "shcool", had the error not been spotted in time.
Contractors had been resurfacing the road over the past week ahead of students and staff returning on Monday, September 5th. Pics of the spelling gaffe quickly went viral, and it's understood the wording has now been corrected at no additional cost.

Sharing a photo of the sign on Reddit, one amused person, who goes by the username u/Neat-Anxiety4213, declared it to be "the most ironic thing I’ve seen all week", while another joked, "PTA Meeting one month ago: "I know how we can put the cool back into school".
A third person laughed: "Has anyone else just said it in a Sean Connery voice and it made perfect sense?"
A council spokesperson has made the following statement: "Unfortunately, our contractor carrying out our resurfacing work on Chalky Road outside PACA originally misspelt the word 'school' earlier today. This has been corrected at no cost to the council."
