Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher lived up to her nickname even before becoming Prime Minister by pressing shirts in Parliament.
The revelation comes in a documentary marking 40 years since she became Britain’s first female PM.
Lib Dem peer Baroness Shirley Williams told of seeing her in the women’s room at the Commons.
She said: “It had an ironing board, almost permanently occupied by Mrs Thatcher. She spent a lot of time ironing Denis’s shirts.”
Tory MP Ken Clarke told how, as a woman from a modest background, Mrs Thatcher defied expectations.
He said: “If you had told me that this woman would become Prime Minister – I mean no dislike of her at all – I would have thought that was ridiculous.”
