Irn-Bru call on fans to name one of Scotland’s ice gritters in tribute to fizzy drink

Irn Bru is calling on fans to help name the latest addition to Scotland's ice gritters.

A vote is underway to find a name for the newest member of the fleet tackling roads this winter inspired by the ginger drink.

An eagle-eyed fan noticed the similarity between Irn Bru's iconic orange and blue packaging and the gritter's paintwork - sparking a debate on what it should be called, Edinburgh Live reports.

Now fans can vote between four options on Facebook - Grits you through, IRN-BRRRRRU, Made in Scotland from Gritters and Bru Grit.

It comes after transport chiefs named one gritter Yes Sir, Ice Can Boogie after the song became the country's unofficial national anthem when Scotland qualified for the Euros.

Amey, which operates its gritter fleet on behalf of Transport Scotland, has a proud tradition of handing iconic names to members of its fleet.

Scots have been famed for giving them hilarious pun-filled names including Spready Mercury, Sir Salter Scott, Buzz Iceclear and the recently coined classic, Yes Sir, Ice can Boogie.

The latest vote is scheduled to run from Friday 18 to Monday 21 December.

'Made in Scotland from Gritters' took an early lead on Facebook, followed closely by 'Grits you through'.

Once a winner is selected it will be available for tracking through Traffic Scotland’s interactive service.

Adrian Troy, AG Barr Head of Marketing, said: “We know that IRN-RBU fans have a great sense of humour and after a tough year for everyone, we wanted to give the nation the chance to have some fun in our own unique way”.

“Scotland’s gritters really do help us get through and we hope that this opportunity provides a smile for our fans as we look forward to a new year”.
