Irishwoman's delight at winning renovated cottage in Mayo in Covid-19 charity draw

A woman who won a renovated cottage in a €1million draw finally got the keys yesterday.

Michele Hallahan celebrated with a glass of bubbly as she walked through the door of the 150-year-old property in the foothills of the Ox Mountains in Co Mayo.

She paid €50 for four tickets in the draw to raise money for frontline health workers.

Michele said: “I absolutely love it. What I especially like is the fact the house is so old but still has many of the original features.

The former owners, Joan and Patrick, said they are grateful for their recovery from Covid-19 and decided on the raffle because they always thought the support staff should get more.

Joan, who attended the handover of the keys said: “They were always cheerful, hard-working and reliable and kept the hospital ticking over.”
