Irishwoman, 103, gets Covid-19 booster shot

One of Ireland’s oldest residents has received their Covid-19 booster vaccination.

Cavan woman Una McBarron was the first woman in residential services for older people in Community Health Organisation Area 1 to be vaccinated against the virus back in January and she has now received her booster shot.

The 103-year-old from Ballyconnell is a resident at Breffni Care Centre in Cavan.

Cara O’Neill, Head of Vaccination, CHO 1 said: “We have come a long way since Ms McBarron became the first person in residential services for Older Persons across CHO1 to receive her first dose of a Covid 19 vaccine.

“I’m delighted to see she has now received her booster vaccine nine months later.

“Ireland’s hugely successful vaccination programme is now moving on another step with the booster programme for those aged over 65 years living in a long-term residential care facilities and for people aged over 80 years living in the community.”

Aisling Duffy, Operational Site Manager for Cavan CVC added: “On Wednesday, the team administered a booster vaccine to a lady aged 103 years of age, Una McBarron, who was the first lady to receive her vaccine in County Cavan back in January of this year.

“The team are delighted to be part of this next phase of the COVID-19 Vaccination programme.

“We have received a very positive response from the residents who are happy to be receiving their vaccine booster.”
