Irishman's slams pubs and nightclubs across the country for turning nights out into a "shouting match"

An Irish pub-goer has taken to Reddit to slam hospitality venues across the country for making nights out turn into a "shouting match."

In a post on the forum, he said the level that music is played at means everyone ends up “screaming at one another” and that "you end up hoarse by the end of the night."

He says “it's getting out of hand, everywhere you go now the music is absolutely blaring. You pop into a pub for a quiet one, fat chance the music's turned up to 11.

“You go out for dinner for a catch up with a friend or out on a date, and it becomes a shouting match where you end up huddled in to one another to try and hear what they're trying to say or end up screaming at one another which probably leads to the resident Spotify dj thinking the music needs to be louder to dampen the sound of chatter.

“Why? You end up hoarse by the end of the night. There's just no need.”

In response to his controversial post, some Reddit users agreed with the level of noise as one person wrote: “As someone who is very bad at making out voices from background noise, I have frequently had to just say ‘Sorry I just can't hear you’ after getting someone to repeat themselves three times. It's especially awful in restaurants.

“One of my favourite spots has recently started cranking the music louder than ever, getting hard to comfortably talk at the table.”

Another person said: “As a person with rough hearing at the best of times I hate bars. Just me struggling to hear my friends for a few hours while I get ripped off for pints.”

A third suggested that “the louder the music is the less inclined you are to sit around chatting and the more likely you are to go get another drink.

“They don't want you sitting around chatting and drinking slower and going to the bar less.”
