Irishman in shock after being outfoxed by cheeky thief making off with his takeaway

A thief was caught in the act making off with a man's takeaway in Dublin this week.

The culprit turned out to not be a neighbour or a passerby but rather a sneaky fox on the hunt for food in broad daylight.

Posting pictures of the robber online on Tuesday, the man wrote that "a fox just stole my Deliveroo".

In one image, the animal can be seen on the green of a housing estate with the takeaway bag in its mouth.

A second photo shows the fox making a clean escape with the man's dinner.

The man, who posted the amazing snap on Reddit's Ireland forum, said he was later "refunded from Deliveroo and ordered again" so it was "not too bad [and] was pretty funny".

He revealed the order was a chicken and chorizo sandwich from a restaurant in Rathmines.

The post received thousands of reactions from people online, with many hailing the cheeky fox as a "loveable scamp".

One person said: "Is this the cutest theft that’s ever happened? Because I think this is the cutest theft that’s ever happened. Is maith liom an sionnach!"

A second wrote: "I'm sorry he robbed your food but he is adorable. Look at his face, he looks utterly thrilled with himself. 10/10 I would let him rob my food."

A third commented: "In a person he’s a feckin chancer but as a fox? Lovable scamp. Is maith liom an sionnach!"

While a fourth said: "Look how happy he looks in the second photo though!!"

Someone else said: "Really pleased with himself! It’s a great pic, It looks like he’s some kind of magical sidhe fox, which has flowers springing up wherever he walks."

And another added: "I really love that you could take the photos. Man this post made my day, I am really sorry for your Deliveroo.

"But if you tell me 'a fox stole my food' I wouldn't believe you."
