A young man from Limerick has died following a tragic fall while on holidays in Greece.
The man, aged in his early 20s, was with a group of friends on the island of Ios when the freak incident happened on Sunday.
From west Limerick, he was a talented GAA player, known for both his hurling and Gaelic football skills while representing his local club.
The sudden death of the "accomplished sportsman" has caused shock and sadness among the local community.
Emmett O'Brien, an Independent Councillor for Adare-Rathkeale, said people were "shocked beyond belief" at the terrible news.
"He had a good life and he was a great kid, it's a terrible tragedy," Councillor O'Brien said.
"My thoughts and sympathies are with his family, I knew him personally very well through GAA and socialising.
"He was a very integral part of the social fabric of the community.
"He was an extraordinarily nice-mannered and friendly young gentleman and there is utter devastation in the parish after his passing."
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said they are aware of the case and are providing consular assistance.
