Irish youngsters to keep an eye on when the Premier League returns

With the Premier League set to return on June 17th, there is a great opportunity for the Irish youngsters to make their mark.

With extra substitutions and increased squad rotation expected, players can take advantage and try to break into their clubs first team.

Here are some names you should keep an eye out for when the season kicks off:

Troy Parrott

One of the most talked about Irish youngsters in years, Troy Parrott has made his Tottenham, Ireland U-21 and Ireland senior debut in 2019. With fans disappointed about his lack of game time at Spurs, the restart of the season could give the 18 year old an opportunity to break into Jose Mourinho’s side.

Harry Kane’s injury and fitness concerns, could make way for a number of appearances for the Dublin native, as the remaining games play out.

Having shone at youth level for both club and country, the highly rated forward is most definitely one all Irish fans will be keeping a close eye on.

Parrott had his appendix removed last week and will return to training later this month, expect him to be in the reckoning in July.

Aaron Connolly

Having already made 17 appearances in the Premier League this season, Brighton forward Aaron Connolly will hope that the restart of the season will help him cap off a fantastic campaign.

Making his Prem debut in Brighton’s 4-0 defeat to Manchester City back in August, the Galway man also bagged himself a goal in his first competitive start for the Magpies that same week, during their 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers in the Caraboa Cup.

The 20 year old has since gone on to feature regularly for Graham Potter’s side, using his lightning pace to cause problems for all the leagues defences.

Having already established himself to the Brighton and Irish fans, you can expect to see him give a helping hand, as Brighton battle for Premier League survival.

Michael Obafemi

The Southampton forward made his debut in 2018, making Obafemi the second youngest player ever to make a Premier League appearance for the Saints. The 19 year old has made 15 appearances for his side this season, with ten coming from the bench, and scoring twice.

We perhaps haven’t seen the best of the youngster yet, with an outstanding solo goal against Chelsea on St Stephen's day, showing a glimpse of how talented the forward is.

With player fitness a big concern for all clubs trying to finish the season strong, this could be the opportunity Obafemi needs to show just how talented he is.

Adam Idah

One of the most improved players in Stephen Kenny’s Under-21 side, Adam Idah could be in line for a breakthrough season in the next campaign.

The Norwich striker has been limited to just three appearances this season, leaving question marks over his future at Carrow Road.

Being top scorer in Ireland's U-21 campaign in 2019, with five goals, as well as being the only player to feature in all twelve fixtures, Norwich boss Daniel Farke may look to the 19 year old for energy and hunger as his side tries to claw their way off the bottom of the table.

Mark Travers

The highly rated Bournemouth ‘keeper made a dream debut in the Premier League last May, in his side's 1-0 win over Tottenham.

Since then, first team opportunities have been extremely hard to come by, with the form of current number one, Aaron Ramsdale.

The 21 year old has been limited to just a single appearance this season, but the prospect of squad rotation playing a vital role as the league returns could lead to the Ireland international getting another well deserved opportunity between the sticks.
