Irish Women's Premiership: Cliftonville move to within a point of leaders Glentoran

Cliftonville have narrowed the gap at the top of the Danske Bank Women's Premiership with only a point now separating the Reds and leaders Glentoran at the summit.

Louise McDaniel, Kirsty McGuinness and Megan Weatherall were all on target in Wednesday night's 3-1 win over Sion Swifts who bagged a late consolation through Cora Chambers.

Cliftonville's win couldn't have come at a better time as they bounced back from last week's heavy 4-1 defeat to the Glens at Ashfield.

Wednesday night's win over the Swifts at the Melvin Sports Complex leaves Cliftonville hot on the heels of the East Belfast club with a crucial game in hand.

Elsewhere, Crusaders Strikers defeated Linfield 3-1 at Midgley Park.

An early brace from Northern Ireland international striker Emily Wilson in the opening stages of the match and a goal from Danielle McDowell were enough to see off the Blues.

Rebecca McKenna pulled one back 20 minutes from time for Linfield but the comeback did not materialise.

Linfield remain in fourth spot in the table, 12 points off the top.

In the next round of fixtures, the Blues host Cliftonville at Midgley Park on Monday, while on Wednesday leaders Glentoran travel to Sion Swifts and Crusaders face Derry City at Seaview.
