All over Ireland, floury discs are tonight being flung high in the air – with varying degrees of expertise.
For some, Pancake Tuesday is the chance to show off – to deliver a culinary masterclass that culminates in the plating up of stacks of fluffy goodness.
For others, though, things are often a little more ... complicated.
We all know people on either end of the Pancake spectrum: the self-styled Gordon Ramsays, and the unfortunates who are the stuff of kitchen nightmares.
It's fair to say, all things considered, that Government advisor Anne-Marie McNally falls on the wrong side of the pancake-making line – at least if her hilarious Shrove Tuesday tale is anything to go by.
Anne-Marie set bellies heaving all over Twitter with the sordid story of a Pancake Tuesday disaster.
We've all been on the wrong end of a pancake flip, right?
Right.
But not many of us have broken the handle of our frying pan at the very moment we toss the golden disc in the air .
Worse, the episode happened in front of a guy she was seeing for a few weeks.
We'll leave it to Anne-Marie to take up the story.
"I was seeing a guy a few weeks. Invited him over for pancakes.
"My kitchen faced the sofa so I say, all cocky, “Watch this!”
"Cue sexy stance & I went for flip
"The handle broke off pan, I was left holding the handle while pan flew upwards then smashed my toe & burned my foot. Sexy times."
To add insult to injury, she followed up by tweeting: "I've just been reminded that this also left a burn mark on the floor and butter grease marks on the wall."
We're sure she's not the only one to suffer such a fate on Pancake Tuesday, but it's a great story very well told.
