Irish woman set to battle it out for €100,000 by building a bridge in new reality series

An Irish woman is set to battle it out for over €100,000 in a brand new reality TV series.

Move over Maura Higgins, there’s a new girl in town, as Kildare native, Maura Dore is set to make her TV debut on Channel 4's 'The Bridge' next week.

The 20-year-old hotel entertainer and fitness instructor lost her job during the pandemic, forcing her to move back home with her parents.

But making use of her new free time, Maura decided to take on the ultimate challenge taking part in the brand new show which sees 12 strangers come together to build a bridge in 20 days.

Narrated by Hollywood star, James McAvoy, the five-part series is set to be the ultimate test of mental skill, physical agility and group dynamics as the strangers will live together in the beautiful countryside whilst being challenged to build an 850ft bridge by hand.

Maura and her fellow contestants will be given no information about the epic challenge that awaits them or what they’ll need to do to win the £100k (€109,437) cash prize, reports North Wales Live.

Alike any reality show, there are a series of twists and turns along the way offering moral dilemmas, sparking rivalries and putting their teamwork to the test.

Each of the contestants get to vote who they think is most deserving of the prize before the winner is left with the trickiest decision of all - whether to keep the money or share it.

Looking back at the experience, Maura, who is the youngest contestant on the show said: “Well.... I’ve basically just had the most incredible experience of my entire life and it’s gonna be on TV for all you guys to see very soon.”

Maura moved to London when she was just 16 to attend drama school, teaching herself basic life skills like washing and cooking using YouTube.

She describes herself as extremely competitive and was on the Irish National Tennis team at the age of 8.

But as a self-confessed people pleaser, Maura admitted she would prefer to ignore nasty people rather than confront them.

Commissioned by Channel 4 Entertainment, the show is being made by Manchester based Workerbee and filmed in North Wales.

Channel 4 has recently announced its line-up of contenders will also include Trish Goddard’s publicist daughter, a stripper with “alpha-male syndrome” and an ex-military paddle-boarder, to name a few.

  • The Bridge will air on Channel 4 from October 11.
