An Irish man in his 20s travelling with Ms Geraghty was injured in the crash but his condition is currently described as stable.

Local police officials have said the lane in the Rashidiya District was only designated for cars, according to reports.

In a Twitter statement, Mwasalat, the bus company, said that 15 people had died in the crash and that another 16 were injured, including the driver.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance.
