Irish woman hilariously sees colleague googling how to pronounce her name during video call

An Irish woman called Fionnuala hilariously spotted a workmate of hers googling how to pronounce the name during a video call.

During a conference the colleague shared their screen but forgot to close the tab that said "how to pronounce Fionnuala" for everyone to see.

The Fionnuala in question spotted the tab and shared it on Twitter, getting a massive response since.

She tweeted: "When your colleague shares their screen and they still have this tab open. Irish name problems."

And brilliantly the image has brought together droves of Irish people sharing their experiences of people mispronouncing or spelling their names.

Another Fionnuala said: "Aww I would be chuffed they made the effort, instead of just calling me Fiona-wala."

A man called Fearghal waded in: "I have been called Fraggle, Frodo, Fuego, Fraga and even Virgil! I live in Spain so my name is not that well known. Damn you Fergal Sharkey for not being popular here."

A fellow Fionnuala said: "Try working in Australia as a Fionnuala ! I was called all sorts and resorted to writing it phonetically Finula! Greeks in Melbourne though I was Greek ‘Fenela’."

Another added: "I know your pain —I get called Camilla regularly when speaking to wholesalers in England and when you spell it they get more confused."

Have you got an Irish name that people abroad just can't seem to pronounce? Let us know in the comments.
