Irish woman dies after fall while hiking in popular mountain region in Mallorca

A 75-year-old Irish woman has died in Mallorca following a tragic accident while hiking in the Tramuntana Mountains in Mallorca, Spain.

The incident happened in the Serra de Tramuntana, which is a mountain range that runs southwest to northeast and stretches the length of the Spanish island of Mallorca. The 75-year-old was with a group of 12 hikers at the the time of the incident, according to local reports.

According to the Majorca Bulletin, the Irish woman suffered fatal injuries after losing her balance and falling ten metres in a steep area of Pas d'en Segarra, near Puig de Roig in Escorca.

The group of hikers she was with called for emergency assistance immediately following the incident. The Mallorca Fire Brigade and Guardia Civil mountain rescue units rushed to the scene, and the Guardia helicopter was also deployed to the scene.

According to the Majorca Bulletin, when emergency services arrived at the mountain range, they tried to come to the woman's aid but sadly she was pronounced dead by medics on the scene. Dublin Live has contacted the Department of Foreign Affairs for comment.
