Irish weather: Which Dublin beaches have swimming bans in place ahead of weekend heatwave forecast?

With the mercury set to rise up into the mid twenties, Dubliners will be flocking to the sand dunes in their droves to make the most of this Indian Summer.

But before you hit the city's beaches, you might want to check out if there are any restrictions for bathers.

We took a quick look at www.beaches.ie to see what the water quality is like across the city’s popular strands.

The good news is that the capital’s most popular swim spots all report "excellent quality", including Portmarnock, Dollymount, Sandycove and the Forty Foot.

And there are reported restrictions at just a handful of Dublin's beaches. Here's where they are:

City beaches with reported restrictions

Sandymount

Bathing is prohibited at Sandymount for the entire 2019 bathing season due to poor water quality.

Merrion Strand

A Swim Restriction notice was put in place on the 18th of August with an expected duration of six days. Bathing is prohibited because "water quality deteriorated due to suspected contamination of urban surface waters discharging into bathing water".

Fingal beaches with reported restrictions (north Dublin)

Portrane - the Brook Beach

Beaches.ie reports that an All Season Restriction is in place on this beach.

They say: "An advice against bathing restriction will be in place at Portrane the Brook Beach for the entire 2019 bathing water season.

How to stay safe in the sun

"The reason for this restriction is because Portrane the Brook Beach was classified as having poor water quality following the 2018 bathing season."

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown beaches with reported restrictions (south Dublin)

There are no reported bathing restrictions at any of the beaches in the DLR area.
