Those dreaming of a white Christmas in Ireland will have to wait until at least next year, with Met Eireann predicting plenty of frost and sunshine but no snow.
Much of Ireland will wake up to frosty and foggy conditions on Christmas morning, before the wintry weather lifts to make way for sunshine later in the day.
Met Eireann said: "A cold, dry Christmas Day in most areas, with frost and fog patches clearing during the morning.
"Bright for a time, with some hazy sunshine, but cloud will increase gradually from the Atlantic, bringing rain and drizzle to the southwest coast later. Becoming breezy also, with freshening southeast winds, later strong in Atlantic coastal counties. "
St Stephen's Day will be wet and windy at first in northern and eastern areas at first, but dry intervals will develop in most parts, with some bright spells and winds easing overland.
However, further outbreaks of showery rain will extend from the west and southwest. Temperatures will range between 8 and 12 Celsius.
Thursday night will be dry to start in some places, but a spell of wet and breezy weather will affect all areas overnight.
Friday will be fresh and gusty south to southwest winds.
Met Eireann say There will be rain in all areas at first, but this soon becoming confined to parts of the northwest coast.
Saturday: Breezy with fresh southerly winds, which may increase strong in some exposed coastal areas. A lot of dry weather is expected, if fairly cloudy generally, but some bright or sunny spells should break through.
