Irish weather: Met Eireann forecast big freeze to send temperatures plunging to -4C

Icy blasts are set to send temperatures plunging to -4C as Ireland faces a freezing weekend after the turbulence of Storm Brendan.

Met Eireann forecast it will be a cold, bright and mainly dry day with good sunny spells thanks to the high pressure.

This evening, frost will develop quickly after dark.

Tonight will be dry with clear skies and a widespread sharp or severe frost with some icy patches.

Some patches of mist and fog will develop also with lowest temperatures hitting minus four.

On Sunday morning, frost and any mist or fog will slowly clear.

The day will be dry and bright with good sunny spells in most areas.

It won't be quite as cold as today with highest temperatures ranging from 4 degrees in Ulster to 8 degrees in Munster.

Next week, it will be cloudier and less cold with a little drizzle in places, however it will be mainly dry with very little rainfall expected.

Monday is set to be dry and bright.

The best of the sunshine will be in the south and east. Temperatures will range from 6 to 9 degrees.

Tuesday will be a mainly dry day, but mostly cloudy with some patchy drizzle in places.

High pressure remains in charge of our weather through midweek and towards next weekend, keeping conditions generally settled.

There will be a lot of dry weather, but it will be rather cloudy with some patchy drizzle at times.
