Irish weather forecast: Wet and cloudy conditions today with some 'persistent' showers

The warm spell will break today with wet and cloudy conditions expected and some "heavy and persistent" showers.

While yesterday was humid with highs of 22C recorded in Dublin and Shannon, we'll see a dip in temperatures today, with highs of 16C to 19C.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Cloudy and wet in many parts of the north and west this morning with outbreaks of rain quickly extending eastwards, turning heavy and persistent at times.

"The rain will turn more showery in the afternoon and evening. Some bright or sunny spells will develop later in the west.

"A little cooler than recent days with highs of 16C to 19C and breezier too in moderate to fresh southerly winds, which will veer westerly as the rain clears."

Tonight will see a mix of clear spells and scattered showers with lows of 10C to 13C.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, revealed there will be further scattered showers and sunny spells, with some heavy showers possible in Ulster.

A forecaster said: "The showers will be most frequent in northern and western areas with some prolonged and heavy showers possible over Ulster.

"Highest temperatures 17C to 20C in moderate to fresh and gusty westerly winds."

Heading into the weekend, the national forecaster revealed the unsettled weather pattern will continue with rain or showers most days.

It will become humid again on Friday as temperatures rise to highs of 22C.

Rain will spread countrywide early Friday morning, turning heavy in places.

It will turn more showery in nature later in the day with some thundery downpours, but some sunny spells too, especially in western areas. Warm and humid, with top temperatures of 18C to 22C.
