Irish weather forecast: Washout weekend ahead as Met Eireann predict heavy rain and local flooding

It's a washout weekend ahead as Met Eireann have warned of heavy rain and local flooding.

Temperatures are set to rise for Halloween but the rain and wind are also set to return at the weekend.

There will be a mixed bag of weather by the time trick-or-treaters head out this evening.

Met Eireann said today will be mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain.

Dry spells will prevail over the north and east but the rain will turn heavier and more persistent in the southwest during the afternoon and evening.

Tomorrow will be cloudy with further outbreaks of rain.

A forecaster revealed: "Heavy and showery in nature and widespread through the day, the best of any dry weather in the morning and late evening."

Although temperatures will range between 12C and 15C during the day, they will plunge to lows of 2C to 3C in the east at night.

The heavy rain will continue on Friday night with accumulations leading to local flooding.

Met Eireann said: “The unsettled showery weather continues through the weekend.”

A forecaster added: "Heading to Saturday night, there'll be more heavy rain or showers at times, currently looking like the south and southwest at risk of the higher accumulated totals but there's uncertainty on the exact detail, with all areas at risk."

Temperatures will range between 10C and 12C in the day and as low as 3C or 4C in the east overnight, staying at 7C or 8C in the west.
