Irish weather forecast: Warm weather here to stay as Met Eireann predicts highs of 24C this weekend

Warm weather is here to stay as temperatures are set to rise to 24C this weekend.

And forecasters revealed that the mild conditions will remain into the start of next week.

But it's not all good news, with some rain expected today and tomorrow, particularly in the north and west of the country.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Today will start mainly dry with some sunshine.

"However, rain on west coasts will spread across the country during the day, reaching the east early this afternoon and the southeast by evening. A clearance will follow in the west and north later in the day.

"Highest temperatures of 16 to 18C. It will become breezy with the rain with fresh southerly winds.

"Thursday will be a dry day in many areas with sunny spells breaking through. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will affect the northwest and north.

"Becoming warm with highest temperatures of 18 to 22C. Breezy at times with moderate to fresh southwest winds."

And conditions will continue to improve on Friday, just in time for a warm and largely dry weekend.

A forecaster added: "Friday will be a warm day and it will stay dry in most areas with spells of sunshine.

"Highest temperatures 18 to 23 or 24C, warmest inland. Southerly breezes will be light to moderate.

"There is a good chance that it will stay warm early next week as well."
