Irish weather forecast: Two warnings in place as Met Eireann predicts highs of 23C

Met Eireann have issued a marine warning for high winds today as some showers are set to develop this afternoon.

There will be some sunny spells across the country, with the showers breaking through in the east and west.

And forecasters say it will be a much fresher night compared to recent nights with temperatures going as low as 9C, Dublin Live reports.

They added: "A dry start for most of the country with a mix of cloud and sunny spells.

"Scattered showers in the west will become a bit more widespread through the course of the afternoon but many places will continue largely dry.

"It will be largely dry and winds will become slack overnight."

And the outlook for the weekend looks pretty good too.

Saturday will be mainly dry as well with sunny spells and just the odd shower. Highest temperatures will reach 18 to 22C and winds will be light.

Saturday night will be dry apart from a few isolated showers with minimum temperatures between 10-13C.

Met Eireann added: "Sunday will see sunny spells and isolated showers. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees, coolest in the northwest, in light northwest or variable breezes.

There will be isolated showers overnight but otherwise it will be dry with minimum temperatures of 10 to 14C.

As well as this, there is a marine and environmental warning still in place for the whole of the country.

The status yellow, small craft warning means that "Southeast winds, veering southwest this morning will occasionally reach force 6 today on all Irish coasts."

There is also a status yellow blight warning in place and Met Eireann states: "Weather conditions conducive to the spread of potato blight will develop across Ireland all this week."

Meanwhile a yellow weather warning has been issued for rain across Northern Ireland this weekend.

The warning is in place from Saturday, July 27 at 9am until Sunday, July 28 at 3pm.

According to the Met Office, heavy rain may lead to flooding in a few places and travel disruption.
